Top 3 Winter Dishes to Warm You Up

The days are getting shorter and the temperatures keep dropping, but something that doesn't drop: our desire for good food, coziness and love. Nothing helps with that better than serving a delicious meal during these cold months. In this blog I share my favorite dishes that fit perfectly with winter, made with the tastiest seasonal ingredients .

That's why we're here especially for you: 3 Winter Dishes to Warm You Up

1. Stamppot: it can't get more classic than this: simple, nutritious and warm. Combining potatoes with winter vegetables makes for a delicious meal that is ideal to warm you up after a cold day. It is often served with smoked sausage or a piece of meat, but there are different types of stamppot. I have listed the three most popular ones for you:

Hutspot - Consisting of potatoes, carrots and onions. Why is it so popular? Hutspot is one of the oldest stews and has a sweet taste because of the carrot and onion. It is often served with pulled meat, which makes for a tasty savoury addition.

Kale stew - Consisting of kale, potatoes, smoked sausage and bacon. Why is it loved? Kale is a typical winter vegetable that is rich in nutrients and has a strong, slightly bitter taste. Combined with salty bacon and mashed potatoes, it is indispensable during the cold days.

Sauerkraut stew - Consisting of potatoes, sauerkraut, bacon and smoked sausage. Why is it popular? The fresh-sour taste of sauerkraut gives a special twist to the stew. This dish is filling and wonderfully warming.

2. Snert : Snert or pea soup is a traditional Dutch dish made from split peas, vegetables and meat. It is a thick, hearty soup that is mainly eaten in the winter. The dish symbolizes coziness and full bellies. In addition, the dish is associated with family gatherings, winter skating trips and long walks in the cold. It is easy to prepare and is often made in large quantities so that the whole family can enjoy it. PS : if you reheat snert for a second time, it often tastes even better (just a tip).

3. Winter stews: Luxury and Comfort in One Dish : Stew is a dish in which meat, vegetables and spices are slowly cooked in a liquid, such as stock, wine or beer. This results in a rich, flavourful meal in which ingredients are perfectly fused together. Stews are ideal for the winter months because of their warmth, deep flavours and nutritional value. Different types of stews are: Hachee, Wild stew, Boeuf Bourguignon and Beer stew.

Which of these dishes are you going to try first this winter? I think I'll start with Snert for now, the rest will come later...
