Ingredients (for 2 paninis)
- 4 slices of firm bread (e.g. ciabatta or wholemeal bread)
- 1 can tuna in water (approx. 140 g), well drained
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 4 slices cheese (e.g. cheddar or Gruyère)
- Butter (to grease the bread with)
Preparation
Making tuna mixture
In a bowl, mix the drained tuna, mayonnaise, mustard (if using), chopped onion, salt and pepper. Stir everything well until well mixed.
Prepare bread
Lightly spread the outside of the bread slices with butter. This will ensure the paninis get nice and crispy.
Filling panini
Place a slice of cheese on the inside of one slice of bread. Then spread the tuna mixture over the cheese. Place a second slice of cheese on top of the tuna mixture and close the panini with the other slice of bread.
Using panini maker
Preheat the panini maker and place the panini in it. Grill the panini for 3-5 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is completely melted.
Serve
Remove the panini from the panini maker and cut diagonally. Serve immediately while the cheese is still nicely melted!
This Tuna Melt panini is a delicious dish for a quick lunch or dinner. It is easy to make and always delicious! Enjoy!
